Larry Yates's day job is organizing for the Virginia Organizing Project. While VOP takes no position on reparations, it is actively anti-racist. Larry staffs one of its statewide campaigns, working to reduce racial profiling in the state. A multi-racial committee has met with state officials, worked for legislation, and gained credibility for the issue.
Larry's VOP work also supports an effort to rename a local high school after a leader in the civil rights movement. On his own time, Larry maintains a personal website with commentary on race and other issues, and is working on a series of novellas dealing with the history of slavery and colonial North America. His nonfiction on racism has been published by CURE and Temple University Press. Larry represented CURE at the national meeting of N'COBRA in Washington DC.
